Hives can be a reaction to Zithromax and azithromycin. How long after discontuintation do the hives last??

Question: What is the time range thant one might expect this symptom and related symptoms to subside. Is this an allergic reaction or due to something else.
Answers: if you have changed nothing else and the medicine is the only thing new then you probably are having a reaction and need to call your doctor to get a different prescription. In the mean while to get rid of the hives take a couple benadryl and wait. This will relieve the itching and also start countracting the allergic reaction. If you notice after the benadryl wears off (4-6 hour later) that the hives are back take some more benadryl. It may take up to 3 days to get all the Zithromax out of your system. If with the hives/rash your throat starts to itch or if you have trouble breathing call 911
If it is severe I would go to the Emergency room because the hives can get down your throat and cut off your breathing; it happened to me.
Depending on the severity of the rash it can last 2-10 days. It doesn't matter if you only have a few hives, you need to seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY!!!!
