Why do the people I meet that say they are allergic to perfume all seem neurotic??

Question: They all complain about aches and pains, talk mostly about themselves and live in dirty homes. I only know a few but they seem like sisters...
Answers: Why do people marinate themselves in perfume to go to work? Totally inappropriate for the workplace and there are people with asthma and other respiratory diseases whom generally cannot tolerate excess perfumes, colognes, after-shave, etc. as it interferes with their ability to breathe. The ones you know well enough to see their less scrubbed homes may be older, seriously handicapped by emphysema and also unable to tolerate strong odors from cleaning chemicals.
Pretty sure the sisters you've judged probably think the inconsiderate scent Nazi's don't bathe as often as they do.
I'm not sure the two are similar. I do not wear perfume and don't like it when other people are drenched in, but I'm not a hypocondriac and my home is not dirty.
sensitivity to smells is something that seems to affect more people each year. We are inundated with cleansers and other products that are supposed to make our lives smell good. soap and water is all that is needed. Even unscented deodorant is hard to find. I'd much rather smell actual fresh air as opposed to fresh air in a bottle or spray can. Just open the window and breathe!
I would say they may be neurotic because they constantly have to feel on guard since there is nothing they can do to protect themselves from their allergy. Having an allergy is difficult, but if you're not even the one who has control over the cause (i.e. they can't stop people from wearing perfume) it is probably very frustrating to deal with.
