My son started throwing up at 10 months when we switched him to whole milk.??
Question: It wasn't immediate but we thought he was allergic so put him back on formula and he still vommitteed. He has seen a GI and put him on prevacid. She thinks he could have a problem with milk protein. We gave him mashed potatoes with milk in it as a baby all the time and he never vommitted. He had no problem with milk based formula. I would think if it was milk protein he wouldn have gotten an upset tummy from having mashed potatoes. So Do you think he could have a milk protein allergy. She wants us to limit all dairy. I just don't see how he didn't have a problem with it as an infant. If the prevacid doesn't work in a few weeks I will try limiting dairy. What do you think?
Answers: Your son may be allergic to the fat in the milk, have you tried putting him on a fat-free milk? Try goat's milk also. My son has Reflux since 6 weeks old and we had to put him on soy formula and fat-free milk in order to stop hte vomiting. he is 12 years old now and has no problems whatsoever with milk or dairy but his GI Dr. said he couldn't tolerate the milk fat. Try a 2 oz cup of fat-free milk for 3 days and see if he throws up w/in 4 hours after he drinks it. If he does throw up then he probably does have a milk protein allergy but I think it's much simpler than that. GOOD LUCK.

you should ask your family Dr. to set an appointment up with a specialist to see what is or isn't wrong with your son=good luck
Use Silk and it will be like hes drinking milk and its better for him.
Sounds like he was taken off formula too early. A baby's intestines are not fully developed. He can be tested to see if it is an allergy. If the Prevacid is going to work it will work within 2-3 days.
A baby under one year should not be given potatoes. Have you heard about infant cereals? They have rice which is not harmful to babies. Why are you trying to rush your infant out of infancy? Let him develop normally. Similac will send you a free baby book that answers questions for the first few years of your baby's life. This will be helpful to you now and in the future.
He may have been started on milk too early. Babies should be 12 mos before given cows milk. Before that it should be formula or breastmilk. Potatos should be no problme after 12 mos also.
You could try the limiting of the dairy for now since he is older instead of the medicine (I try to avoid all rx whenever humanly possible) Maybe give his body time to adjust and introduce milk again. I think he was put on milk too early and just had a bad reaction. Maybe introducing the dairy slowly will help. Remember yogurt can be eaten by ppl who are lactose intolerant (not if he's allergic though, I'm not sure.)
Best of luck,
Amy
