I have a fingernail which is turning white and losing it's "pinkness". What causes this & how can I fix it??

Answers: The nail itself is dead--nails are dead tissue like hair. You can paint it if it's ugly to you. Or wear a bandaid. You probably damaged the nail bed at some point and now it's growing out. You might lose the nail (it grows back) or it just might start growing healthy again. I had a toenail do that last year. I then hit it by accident on the bottom of concrete pool and ripped it off and it's grown back in just fine.
