I think that I have alot of problems for one I dont know how to deal with different emotions who can help me??
Question: I am very confused about different things, like my relationship with my father I always feel uncomfortable around him, I hate men, even though Iam just 19 Iam scared to death from marriage,I think sometimes Iam being too hard on my father and feel guilty about it.I just dont know what to do any more....
Answers: Its possible that you are not even aware of something that might have happened earlier in your life- I hate to suggest it, but maybe you were sexually abused in your early childhood (about 1 in every 4 girls are sexually abused in the US) (see the first reference link) I know it sounds outrageous because that is such a high number, but as I've learned in obtaining my own degree in psychology, it is unfortunately true.
Unfortunately, the symptoms you have described align quite well with the symptoms of sexual abuse (or PTSD associated with it) look at the second two sources below for more info on that
I think its important that you seek help from a therapist- if you are under your parents insurance and are uncomfortable mentioning to them that you want to see a counselor, then seek out help in a different way- consider going to a school counselor (if you are in school) or find a clinic in your area- there are also hotlines you can find to talk to someone
I appologize if I am way off base here- however in my experience, your symptoms do put up a red flag, as they would to almost any good psychologist.
Speak with your doctor, he can recommend a therapist that will help you figure out your feelings.
What has made you so uncomfortable around your father, why do you hate men and why are you scared of marriage. It sounds like you have had some negative experiences with men. But you must care about yourself enough to try and resolve this issue since you have not got yourself into a unhealthy relationship. Keep working on this, see a therapist who can help you pinpoint where this comes from and help you process the feelings you have toward men and your father.
If you feel uncomfortable around men, then there is obviously a reason. However, the reason may be known or unknown to you right now(the mind is very powerful and can block things out). I would talk to a professional who could help you get to the bottom of the issue! You will never be able to live a completely healthy life until you can figure this out! I hope that you are able to find someone who can help...good luck!
Have a heart to heart with your dad, find a way to resolve all of your issues about men, even if it is just accepting that life happens and there is no getting around it. When you begin to feel overwhelmed, just take deep cleansing breaths and remember you are still young and have a lot before you.
Build a support group of women. They will comfort and sustain you. Retreat into the soft, kind, gentle, supportive world of women until you are ready to relate to men again.
No matter how many men have hurt you so far, there are still men out there who are kind and compassionate. Don't push it, you will find them.
Just don't find some man just like your father to marry, or have a relationship with. Trying to resolve old conflicts that way never works. Give some decent guy a chance.
Do seek counselling. If you find the right counsellor, you'll be amazed at how much it helps.
Stay away from your dad for a while if you need to!
