Can my mother and my father's behavior be genetic and passed on to me??
Question: My mother had delt with depression for a while but doesn't get it treated she constantly thinks everything is out to get her and takes a bunch of random diet pills because she thinks she is overweight and gambles A LOT. My father has a HORRIBLE temper and doesn't show his feelings in anyway. I find myself doing both things. I can't get a grip on my anger and I broke up with my boyfriend of 2yrs. because I didn't think I was good enough for him and would constantly accuse or blame him for things that he never did because I was insecure and didn't know how to deal with things and plus my temper got the best of me with him. Now, I talk to NO ONE I isolate myself and feel like everything is laughing at me behinde my back. I need help guys seriously if you think you can help me. PLEASE E MAIL me at ang_nicole_c@yahoo.com
Answers: Tendencies towards behavior can be genetic. Probably more important is being exposed to your parent's behavior. You have choices but you have to make them yourself. The worst thing you can do is to decide that you don't have any choice because of your parents. By all means don't isolate yourself. Find good people to spend time with. Clergy, teachers, friends. You need exposure to positive, loving people.
Yes - some behaviors can be inherited (such as depression)
and others are learned. people pick up habits, attitudes, sayings, etc- from people they spend a lot of time with (such as their parents)
Parents are also our biggest role models as children learn to cope with and do things as they are growing up.
If you KNOW you don't like a certain action/habit you have - then keep that in mind, when you see yourself acting that way - intentionally stop and try to change that behaviour. It may take awhile, but it's possible to change the way you react be relearning new/better ways to act in similar situations.
This sounds like more than depression your parents souns like they have a chemical imbalance and I am afraid that that is genetic. I have a disorder myself that was passed to me from my mother. The good news is that their has never been any other time in history where treatment was better for these disorders. A new class of antidepressants and antipsychotic medications has enabled people who are schizophrenic and have bipolar to graduate from college and do very well for themselves. I have schizoaffective disorder and am a Honor's student in college and a member of my student governemnt association and involved with various clubs but I had to work 10 times as ahrd as every else to get here. I hope that helps.
well it is possible that you could have the same/genetic behavior as themm....hey how do you think people get their personalities.. don't worry about those other people...be who you want to be...think about your descisions you have so many more years of your life left why worry about a little problem that will last you less then a month...the best thing to do when you get worked up over someone is too communicate with them..normally like you would if you and your boyfriend were still dating...the worse thing to do thoug is to make things up to try to get other epople to like you...you seem like a nice girl and i ma sure many people would like to be your friend so just be your self and be more social with those you like and find nice..good luck!!!
hi,yes it can be passed on to you but the good news where is hope that you noties that you need help that the frist step so that great you should see about getting into thearby to work on your isolate your not alone
I suggest every day for a month or so go in front of the mirror Every morningwhen you get up and again when you go to bed and say I, your name, I love you, you are a wonderful person !
Depression is something that can be passed from generation to generation. A lot of our behaviors however are from the enviornment that we have lived in. The way we were brought up has a lot to do with our actions and the way we interact with other people. Isolation is a very bad thing to do as you can get stuck there and it takes a lot of work to get out of the isolation. Seek help through many of the websites available or through many organizations that have hotlines. Don't allow you to get yourself into a further downward spiral.
Realizing your weakness is the first step to become a better human being. Don't worry about what you did in the past! Just start over.
You behavior may have something to do with genetic, but I believe what you are is what you learned from your parents when you were growing up.
Try to associate yourself with positive people is a good way to unlearn negative behavior. Talking to a counselor is also helpful. We all want to be a better person. If you dare to try hard enough, you can almost accomplish anything. I wish you good luck.
unfortunately yes
