How do I overcome ADD??
Answers: You don't really overcome ADD, but you can learn to minimize its effects on your life. First you need to be diagnosed before you begin any treatment.

I agree with the first answer, in that there is no overcomeing ADD, a person needs to learn to cope with it on a daily basis. While diagnoses is the first step, getting properly diagnosed is difficult as there is not a difinitive test to say if a person has it or not. Usually it takes input from several sourses on the daily functioning of the person seaking diagnoses to reach some idea if ADD might be the proper diagnoses for symptoms being experianced. While ADD/ADHD is often over diagnosed, it is real and many suffer in mild ways to severe ways and it effects all aspects of the persons life. Medicine can help, but learning how to cope with it is important and can not be ignored. There are many ways a person can comensate in his/her life when confronted with living with this affliction. In severe cases it is disabilitating. Often the person has difficulty in orginization, being distracted, feeling antsy, trouble concentrating on things they have little interest in, difficulty in remembering past events or consequences of behaviors, difficulty in seeing into the future, so it is difficult to plan ahead, risk taking behaviors due to impulsiveness, the list goes on. However, if you first find resourses to educate yourself on what it is and why it effects you the way it does, you can learn skills in working with it and around it. It will be long journey, but life is a journey for all of us. One thing it is important not to do is to feel sorry for oneself. There are a lot worse things a person can have than ADD, not that I was saying you were doing that. it is just that if somebody who has this does feel sorry for his/her self, it interfers in that persons ability to help his/her self. Good luck in the journey of life.

Read some good books on ADD and get some therapy. The condition comes with many positive traits, and many successful people have it. See it as a blessing.
