Answers: My best advice is to weigh the pros and cons for taking this medication. Only you can decide what you are willing to deal with (side effects wise). If you feel better by taking it and notice a difference in your quality of life, then obviously it is working. One thing that you should do for yourself is construct a fear hierarchy. That is, write down your fears from weakest to strongest. The exercise will be helpful to you. Also, another thing that you could do is keep a journal documenting when these panic attacks occur. Your may notice a pattern that the panic attacks are more frequent in certain situations or environments. That may offer some insight too. The main idea though is to give the medication time to work before making a decision. I usually recommend a client to give a medication at least a month or two before they make any assessment of its worth. The mistake that most people make is discontinuing their medication as soon as they start feeling better. Don't stop taking your meds without first discussing alternatives with your Dr. He may have a medication that may be more effective for you. Let him know how the meds affect your sleep, eating, etc. Those are good things for him to know to help you find the best medicine. If you are unsure of doseage, then definately discuss that with your Dr. as well. All too often, people try to self-medicate and it can be dangerous and painful (if going through withdrawal). The best of luck to you! Know that recovery is possible!
yes colonzepam works, but be careful because it is EXTREMELY addictive. especially if you take the prescribed amount of 2 per day. i would break one in half (one 1/2 for the morning and 1/2 at night) it would be good for the whole day, unless i felt a little bit more panicky. then 2 would be ok.
I have suffered from extreme panic attacks since my early teens. I am taking Effexor and I am able now to drive, work, shop, go outside to play with my kids. Colonzepam is an addictive drug, so be careful with that one. Your doctor obviously knows best though, but you might want to ask about an SSRI (selective sertatonin Reuptake Inhibitor), they are usually given for anxiety and depression, but you may have an extreme case that needs something stronger. Are you seeing a therapist who can help you with calming techniques, and breathing exercises? It is worth the money if you don't have a drug plan, and you probably wouldn't need more than one session. Good luck, I hope you can overcome!
