How do you stop worrying??
Question: Everything is overwhelming me right now. My youngest son graduated and I have empty nest syndrome , am fearful of a medical condition, beginning a new job, having problems with my husband understanding my need to be involved in my children's lives (even though they are all adults) The worry and panic control my days at times. I'm without medical insurance so cannot seek counseling. Any suggestions? This is ruining my life.
Answers: After a health scare I had the same problem. All I could think about was my daughter, our health, dying, or loosing a loved one to death. I couldn't work because I would have panic attacks while there, or on the road, the only place I felt safe was at home, even then I still had the attacks and anxiety, but I felt more grounded when at home. Even the grocery store was too much for me. I also had no insurance, but I swore to myself that I would never use the medications for anxiety, depression, ext. It took me over a year to get back to myself, with no depression or anxiety. I did it by researching depression and anxiety which helped me realize that it was temporary even if it felt like it had always been so bleak...I couldn't even remember ever being happy when I was depressed, so I couldn't see a future without it...I also started to exercise which really helped empty my mind, and no matter how much I just wanted to sit and cry, I forced myself to get up and do very monotonous work, like scrubbing tile with a toothbrush. I also made sure that I sat outside for atleast 10 minutes twice a day. The sunshine and moonlight really helped. I stopped watching shows that had a negative tone like CSI and only watched shows that were funny and entertaining. This helped me see the better parts of life that I had started to ignore. YOU can feel better too. It has been over a year since my last attack and I am no longer depressed. Feel free to contact me via email if you need to talk, or would like information about some of the resources I used. Feel better and best wishes.
see a doctor, they have medication for your condition
Seek God and let him take care of all your problems.
distraction and diversion! It may sound corny, but Find a fulfilling hobby, paint or knit or writing - writing is awesome in that situation. Good luck!
Take a spa break, pray, and go to your doctor for a treatment.
drink some green tea? (maybe with some gin)
Make a list of your worries than give each a ranking of how important it is to you 1 to 10. The decide if it is something you can take care or if it is out of your control. Next decide if you can deal with it now, tomorrow, or next week. And repeat the serenity poem. It helped me alot. And with the stuff you cannot control leave it alone. Prayer is very good.
You can't help worrying about things but when it gets really bad, I turn it all over to God and let him take care of it. He is always there for us in times of trouble and even though it seems hopeless sometimes, he is my rock and I know that he can help me through. I will pray for you and your family and hope that you can turn things over to Him as well. God Bless.
I think that you should realize a mother will always, be concern about her children, it's nature. But don't become obsessed with your children. Take a time out for your self. Go for a walk, meditate, or do yoga. You want to trigger the excessive energy you put into worrying about your children and have that focus put on you. Now you can always see a Life Coach as suppose a therapist.
You can never stop worrying. The best way is to not let things get to you. You have an empty nest so maybe it's time to rekindle the romance in the relationship with your husband. Does this new job allow you to have medical insurance options? Maybe you can ask around for the most affordable and decent package of insurance now, and buy it as soon as you can. That way, when the medical bills come, it won't be as bad. If you can try relaxing by doing this simple meditation that I usually do when I'm stressed: close your eyes for a bit (open them when driving); breathe in through your nose, and then slowly breathe out through your mouth. Think happy thoughts, and it'll be smooth sailing.
Ask yourself, what's the worst that could happen?
I ask myself that any time I have a difficult decision to make.
If you attend a church, maybe they have a group you could join to discuss problems.
There are also various medications; herbal and non-herbal available over the counter that help ease anxiety. Talk to a pharmacist for recommendations.
I know this next one seems simplistic, but chose each morning to be happy. Your mood can be controlled with practice. Remember, Don't worry, be happy!
try some relaxation techniques(you library should have books) or a hobby that forces you to use your mind. You may also want to check to see if there are any free groups in your community that could help you.
i know what you or going through but you need to understand that your kid have there lifes to live what you need to do take care of your husband and pay less attention to your kids remember that they or young and they have to stand on there own so you can take care of your self it time to let go thing about you and not them ok
ask yourself if you will be worried about a particular problem in 1 week,1 month,or 1 year.the answer is probably not.you will find that most of your 'worries' resolve themselves,so all that worrying was for nothing.
ok so you have an empty nest. you need to find a way to keep bussy but you also need to do things that make you feel fullfilled and worthwhile. start by walking. seriously the psyical activity will release endorfins in your mind and will cheer you up. if you feel you need something to love in that unconditional motherly way buy a puppy or a kitten. but most importantly look to all the times you didnt do something because the cash was need to provide for your children and startdoing something for yourself. little things, who knows it may lead into a caree or end up making you money doing some thing you love. most of all dont feel as though uyou no longer have a porpouse in life, use this as a starting point to find the reason the universe, god, put you on this planet and made you who you are
I am in a similar predicament at the time and am constantly overwhelmed by worry. For me it has come to the point where it is having a detrimental effect on my health. A condition that had all but disappeared resurfaced and I realised I had to do something to get my control back, realising that I would be unable to help my son or anyone else if I was ill, Ive decided to try to limit the time I will allow myself to worry. I continually remind myself that my worrying is not helping and in fact making me less effective at combat ting my problems. I have started ti spend 30 minutes meditating daily and it has helped me feel more peaceful and at ease. As far as unknown medical condition, stop at least worrying about that. Make some positive changes in your diet, research what you think may be wrong with you and check out some of the alternative medicine sites for dietary advice and suggestions until you have enough for a doctor visit. Above all, remember you are not alone, God is with you and there are people out here like me ,and many others who do care and wish you well.God Bless!
