Answers: Nothing makes your eye swell. Your eye doesn't get any bigger for any reason; it would be your eyelid that swells and it could be from any kind of irritation. When you cry, your eyelid gets irritated so your whole eye looks puffy. If you rub your eyelid, then it gets irritated and puffy. If you get something in your eye, then it will turn red and your eyelid will swell but your actual eye does not swell at all. If you have eye surgery you may feel a little tingle where the instruments went into the eye, but the eye will not swell. Allgergies can make your eyelids swell also.
