Does Insurance cover Laser eye surgery??

Question: Hello,

I have a horrible vision problem, my eye doctor told me 5 years ago that my vision problem would at least remain the same and not get worst. However, it has, i used to be able to get really close to a screen and see. But now, i see nothing, i could take off my glasses right now, and put my eyes literally infont of the computer, and still not see.

I've tried it, i was considering an eye surgery but i woonder if insurance covers it.

Please let me know.
Answers: I had PRK and my hubby had LASIK in the past 2 months. Neither surgery was covered by insurance. We did go to a surgeon that gave us a discount because we had the vision insurance through work, and a living healthy discount plan offered through our employers.

Now, if your vision problem is not correctable with glasses or contacts, then LASIK may not correct your vision.

If it is a condition that affects other parts of your eye (retina, cataract, glaucoma, optic nerve problems, diabetic retinopathy) that is treatable with a non-LASIK laser, then depending on your medical insurance, you may be covered for those procedures. Contact your benefit coordinator for that information.

Your question is rather broad, but generally, LASIK/PRK/Phakic IOL surgeries are totally elective and not considered 'medically necessary' and hence, not covered by any insurance plan...vision or medical.

However, if you have an ocular process, degeneration, or disease where the treatment is by using a laser, then to protect your remaining vision, it can be considered medically necessary according to your policy.
It depends on the insurance. Call and find out.
I checked into this 4 years ago. Most insurance companies do not cover this, as it is considered elective surgery. They would pay for eye glasses and examinations instead.
Most insurances will not cover this as it is considered elective, cosmetic surgery. Also, most optometrist/ophthalmologist want to be paid in advance before doing this procedure.
rarely
you need to ask a special low vision eye center
like in Fullerton California has ..or some big universities
and bring up or find out what is the cause, first .
and see if they can or should do anting.

those surgeries don't work on all eyes or all problems

Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
