Is it possible to go blind after years of wearing glasses??

Question: i've been wearing glasses since i was in first grade, and now im in 9th grade, and my eyesights not getting better
Answers: Breathe easy :) you will not go blind from wearing glasses. I have worn corrective lenses since I was in 2nd grade up until 6 weeks ago. Your vision will fluctuate, sometimes a lot, maybe it will get better, or perhaps you will end up needing a stronger prescription...but your vision will stabilize when you hit your early 20s.

I was born really nearsighted. My vision did fluctuate a lot until I reached my early 20s, then it stabilized. I'm in my 30s now...and haven't gone 'blind' yet :)

If you would have major vision loss, or go blind, in the future...it won't be from wearing glasses...it would be an unrelated eye condition.

As for the only way to correct vision being through laser eye surgery...that is false. Glasses and contacts also correct your vision. I had the same vision from the time I stabilized in my early 20s...oh, about 12-15 years ago...long time to have stable vision that doesn't get worse and worse.

I work for an ophthalmology group, am in my 30s, have worn glasses since I was in 2nd grade and contacts for 25 years...and I was CORRECTED to 20/20 BEFORE I had my laser eye surgery 6 weeks ago. The surgery is an OPTION! not a necessity for correcting what can be corrected with glasses or contacts.
I don't know about going blind, but I do know since I was depended on glasses I feel like my sight has decrease without them. As long as your wearing them all the time, it wont get better.
Your eyesight will never better itself. . .the only way to correct vision is through laser eye surgery. . .you can't go blind but as the years pass, your eyesight will continually get worse and worse
hmm. myopia and myopia progression are not really all that related to BLINDNESS . those are 2 completely different things.

sounds like you're talking about myopia or nearsightedness. most myopes stabilize in their early 20's...

scream: a little hint here...if you're going to claim to be an optometrist...you should probably learn to spell the word optometrist .
Highly unlikely. The conditions that cause blindness aren't connected to myopia or astigmatism (the two things that commonly put people in glasses). While it's possible that you may someday develop cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, or anything else known to cause blindness, it wouldn't be related to the fact that you wear glasses now (these things can even happen to people who never wore glasses, and wearing glasses now won't make them any more likely in the future). Don't worry about your eyesight progressively getting worse; that's very common in the teens and will probably stop, or at least slow down, by your twenties.
hi
no its not possible to go blind suddenly even after wearing glasses for many years. i have seen so many people who regularly wore glasses for like more than 20 to 25 years, still they r wearing and having good vision with glasses.
u get glasses due to genetics and hormonal changes in ur body which causes the change in the shape of eye ball, cornea and also the curvature of the cornea, which is the main reason why the image of the object cant be focussed on the retina and u cant see clearly.
to make u see clearly u have to wear glasses which will help the image of an object to focus on the retina and help u see clearly. so glasses r not like any medicine, the r like visual aid to help u see better and clearer without any strain.
usually when u get power at early age, it will gradually increase untill the age of 18 to 21 it depends....then it becomes steady and it will not increase very fast. so basically there is no way ur eyesight would start getting better automatically, u must still wear ur spectacles. wat u can do is maintain ur vision with spects from further detoriation by
1. having a balanced diet with adequet supply of vitamin A.
2. doing regular excersies and yoga like pranayama and sarwangasana.
3. getting a regular eyecheckup at least once every year from an optometrist or ophthalmologist.

if u want to get rid of ur spects and restore ur normal vision without glasses, u should get advice for LASIK surgery from ur eye doctor, which is only possible after u become 18..

i m a qualified optometrist runnin my own optical shop.
