What are the risk factors of smoking while you are pregnant??
Answers: Low birth weight, increased risk of birth defects, increased risk of miscarraige. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, it constricts your blood vessels, decreasing blood flow within your body. Smoking while your pregnant will decrease the blood flow to the baby. Also nicotine crosses the placenta and can enter the baby's bloodstrem, causing vasoconstriction in the baby's developing system. It's best to quit if you're pregnant, or if you're planning to get pregnant.
The post above me has most of the effects, although I'm not sure about the birth defects. It might be on the pack, but I've never seen a study that indicated that smoking causes birth defects. Drugs don't either. Birth defects are genetic, not environmental.
